Expos 2008 Prospectus
2008 marks the inaugural season of the
Meron's/Renzi Expos, and the team hopes to make an immediate
impact in the CVBL. A mixture of talented newcomers,
standout transfers, and veteran ballplayers provides an
unorthodox feel to the team's composition, but its members
believe such diversity will only strengthen the Expos' on-field
prowess.
The Expos will field several key components
from the
Hockey Plus Padres' run to the CVBL Championship Series
in 2007. Craig Bujold and
Mike Bergman, the team's yeoman
weekly pitching staff, will both wear Expos blue this season, as
will such sparkplugs as leadoff man and baserunning threat
Zack
Welch.
Meron's/Renzi will also benefit from the
recruiting of co-founder Zeke Perras, who will bring players
with years of CVBL experience in to bolster the team's ability.
Chief among Zeke's recruits is manager
Pat Spellman, a proven
winner with the
Plattsburgh Cardinals and an eager participant
in the new franchise.
Filling out the roster will be a number of
players culled from the Plattsburgh State baseball program.
CVBL freshmen like Rich Gardinier and
Joe Curcio will look to
make an immediate impact both at the plate and on the mound.
Coach Spellman probably laid it out best when
he stated that while the Expos are certainly here to have fun,
they're also here to win games. There's an unusual level
of pressure from both within and without the program to surpass
the expectations generally granted an expansion franchise, and
the Expos are more than happy to take on the burden.
Hopefully, the Expos' first season will mark the beginning of a
winning tradition.
